Space MATH
An asteroid is hurtling towards Earth. Your goal is to save the planet. You must board one of three spaceships: the SCIENTIFIC AIRSHIP, the SPACE BEE, or the MILITARY CRUISER.
As you execute missions, you will encounter unexpected plot twists. However, to save the Earth, you will need mathematical knowledge, logical thinking, the courage to make difficult decisions, and, of course, the ability to work as a team.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
The simulation teaches mathematical thinking and encourages looking at problems through a mathematical lens. Participants learn to form arguments and make choices based on numbers, logic, and planning for possible scenarios.
TECHNICAL DETAILS
Grades: 4–8 (tasks are adapted for different grade levels).
Participants: 6–12 per mission/model.
Format: The game is played around a physical model using a mobile app.
Methodology: A team-based simulation that allows students to learn from one another (peer learning) while immersing themselves in the story.
Educational Value: Contextual learning where students direct the narrative, acquiring skills that go beyond just mathematics.
Duration: 45–60 min.
